The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina was founded in 2003 by virtue of a city ordinance founded on a provision in the Local Government Code that allows a municipality or a city to create its own institution of higher learning. Its purpose then was to provide the youth of Marikina affordable and quality education. But it was more than that — PLMar was also envisioned to give every resident equitable access to every employment opportunity,
thus, giving them hope of a better life through quality tertiary education.
Its founding was historic and proved to be a gift that keeps on giving — up to this day, it continues to leave a legacy that every Marikeño could cherish.
From a handful of administrators and faculty, PLMar now prides itself with scores of qualified and competent administrators and faculty members ready to serve the huge number of Marikina’s young bright minds.
As it prepares itself for globalization, it has beefed its ranks with highly-qualified faculty members boasting of professional and academic experiences earned from both here and abroad. It began to harness the power of Technology, and its impact is now being felt in every academic and non-academic aspect of operation, amplifying its ability to serve the needs of its clientele.
From an institution that offered only a few programs, PLMar has grown to an insitution boasting of meaningful programs that equip students with the needed education to make it in this increasingly competitive world.
Our curriculum has vastly improved and is consistently evolving to live up to the standards set by the Commission on Higher Education and Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation. It has become Marikina and
the country’s partner towards social, moral and economic development.
As it continues to pave the way for the generation of new knowledge through extensive research and active community involvement, partnership and development, PLMar gears up by deepening its pool of knowledge and
collection of literature and works or venerable individuals from different disciplines. The construction of a new building, new classrooms, new lecture rooms and new laboratories are currently underway to fulfill the university’s mission of producing work-ready, career-focused and community-oriented graduates.
PLMar has gone a long way. It might still be considered young compared to other institutions of higher learning, but this journey to excellence has made the word novice a figure of one’s imagination. Excellence is nothing new to anyone. Quality is not a punch line that everyone awaits. Failure to not achieve such is unacceptable.
PLMar has gone a long way and it will continue to keep on going as it strives to reach new heights, and until every commitment to evert stakeholder is fulfilled.
Let our story be a shining example of what commitment to excellence can do.
